After hearing some positive things about SH: Homecomming, and the fact that the game borrows from chapters in the series that I like, I decided to pick it up. Anyways, I'm in the midst of moving so I more than likely won't get a chance to play the game at all till next week.
What I found interesting however was that the main character in Silent Hill is twenty-two years old (my age) and resembles me a fair amount. I was reading the instruction manual and it was talking about how Alex (the main character) is going back home to his town in New England. Which is exactly what I'm doing.
Then it was talking about how people are going missing in his home town and things like that. One of my friends went missing the year I left home, and there are stories about monsters and vampires near the area I used to live.
What kind of place am I moving back to?
EDIT: Oh yeah, I just remembered. There's an old abandoned hospital that's supposed to be haunted like eight miles from my house too.

Why have I been spelling homecoming with two M's?

Yeah, the room was ok, not my favorite but for the genre it was still upper cream of the crop. I thought the ghosts were a neat new direction (aka enemies that can pursue you beyond closed doors) even though honestly they also frustrated me. lol.
The fans really don't know what they want. I remember a few years ago I saw posts saying "Wouldn't it be great if PH returned??" yet when the poor big guy DOES return the fans get pissy saying he should be Jame's personal bitch boy.
I also thought the movie was good. Sure there were a few things I didn't like but as game to movie adaptations go it is likely the best one.
Honestly SH 2 while awesome in its' own right is not even my favorite (That honor belongs to SH 3. I'm really into Heather/Alessa) and I was always shocked at just how much the fans took offense to me not putting SH 2 on a holy altar.
Cool. Hope you have a blast Griven. I've anticipated this one as well! Alex seems like a good fleshed out character and I don't think his time in the military made him an "action hero" like the jaded Silent Snoots predicted.
Personally I got a kick out of SH Origins too and so many people whined it was Climax from the UK that did it instead of Team Silent. Yet in the end it was a great experience even if it was not the best in the franchise. Still for having been made for the psp it was a sic little package that kicked alot of serious ass!
I think SH4 is my favorite game in the series, despite most fans hating it. I found the new ideas refreshing.
Fanboys crack me up. If the new Silent Hill games were to take place in locales from the earlier games, fanboys would say it's a rehash. If the new games were to use the same old mechanics from the past games, fanboys would cry that the series is stagnant and needs to see change... But when Silent Hill: Homecomming met these challenges, trying to become something destinct from its predecessors, fanboys cried out that nothing should have been changed. It pisses me off. I admire what was done with SH: Homecomming.
Many series are content to dish nearly identical games year after year (ie Halo, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda.) There are so many games that are ripe for innovation. Pokemon could get an active battle system where the key was strategy not stats. Halo could see customizable weapons and armor in campaign. Halo could also use an overworld layout like Zelda or Metroid. Legend of Zelda could turn in any number of new directions; a Zelda game with squad based combat would be awesome.
Fans get their minds set on games having to look and play a certain way. Nearly no companies challenge the fans' expectations. This leaves gamers getting better looking versions of the same game year after year. "We added a three new weapons and two new classes," isn't enough for me. I abhor the acceptance of mediocrity in the gaming world. I hope to see more developers taking a step up like Konami and Double Helix did with Silent Hill.
